Resolution of a Digital Elevation Model

Spatial Resolution

DEM resolution is primarily a measure of the horizontal (x-y) dimensions of each grid cell.

Example: A DEM with a resolution of 10 meters means that each grid cell represents a 10m x 10m area of the land surface.

Vertical Resolution

While less commonly discussed, vertical resolution refers to the precision of elevation values within the DEM.
